How to Pay Securely in E-commerce Website

The technology has taken such a toll on you that a day doesn’t go for the people who have a debit card/credit card these days. At least one person out of three, is making an online transaction on a daily basis. It seems that a day cannot go by without using your debit card for some kind of purchase be it clothes, book, movies or food. While that is there, you can also hear news every other day about someone hacking an e-commerce website, stealing the card information or another kind of sensitive data that is meant to be strictly confidential. In case if you own an E-commerce website, how do you protect your site small kind of hackers and how do you make sure that the data is not stolen? And if you’re just a customer, how do you make the payment safely? Here are few steps to follow so that you would be sure that you’re in a safe zone.

Choose a sophisticated E-Commerce platform

As the E-commerce field is growing on the constant basis, there are many types of open source platform that are being used with less security.  Therefore, choose a platform that is only accessible to the admin panel and can’t be attacked from any public servers. In case, if there is authentication; make sure that the users have a different network.

Use of secured and strong connection while checking out

It is recommended to use a strong SSL authentication for both data and web protection. With web attacks increased by 30% in the last year, it will be only a leap of faith to pay in an unknown E-commerce portal. So, SSL certificates are a proof that the company is secured. An EV SSL is even better. This way, one can prevent all kind of fraudulent purchases that are possible.

Don’t go for the sites that store your personal data

There is no reason to trust the sites that save the transaction records and stores your data like the card numbers, expiration dates and CVV codes. According to the PCI Standards, it is strictly forbidden to store the sensitive data. Therefore, go for the sites that keep a minimal data from the old records in their database just enough for the refunds and the cashback. If they have nothing to steal, they won’t be robbed and as well, you won’t be.

Set very strong and unpredictable passwords

“While it is the obligation of the retailer to keep client data safe toward the back, you can help clients help themselves by requiring a base number of characters and the use of images or numbers,” says Sarah Grayson, senior advertising administrator for the Web Security Group at McAfee. Therefore, as a client, it’s your responsibility to set a password that is strong enough to not be hacked instead of going for long and calculable ones. Using permutations or combinations made up with numerical and special characters is a good start.

Get alerts for suspicious activities

Set up alerts for transactions of your card by consulting the bank. This way, you will get noticed each time a transaction is made from your card, in the form of a text message to your account. Do not prefer the sites that don’t ask the card holder’s name and One-time password for the transactions. In case, if you’re using a 3D secure pin, make sure that you’re notified about the type of the payment by the bank so that you can take a quick action.

Monitor the tracking number of an order

“To battle chargeback misrepresentation, have following numbers for each request you convey,” prompts Jon West, CEO, AddShoppers, a social business stage for retailers. “This is particularly essential for retailers who drop ship.” Therefore, once you have done the transaction, also keep a track on your order and the way it is getting delivered to you. Constant monitoring will keep you safe.

So, to make sure that you’re paying safely on an E-Commerce site, follow the above steps and make sure that the site is adequately protected and keep backing up it regularly and removing the stored information like card numbers with regular intervals.
